Buckeye Youth Council Member Spotlight
Current Buckeye Youth Council Secretary, Su Bin Chang, is a very busy young woman. The Verrado resident and Junior at Basis High School in Peoria is one of only four students in the country to serve on the National League of Cities Council on Youth, Education and Families.
As part of this prestigious national council, Chang collaborates with other city youth leaders to improve the lives of children and families across the country.
In her free time, Chang also volunteers at Abrazo Hospital and interns are the Neuro Trauma lab at the University of Arizona.
“After graduation I would love to be accepted to Pomona College to study Neuroscience,” Chang said. “My hope is to one day work as a medical researcher.”
She started playing the violin in second grade and currently plays with the Phoenix Youth Symphony, a position she’s held since sixth grade. Recently, Chang played her violin at Buckeye’s annual State of the City event to a crowd of over 200 people.
Born in South Korea, Su Bin is an only child and moved to the United States with her family when she was two-years-old.
Her senior year will conclude her second elected term as youth council member, where she was nominated by her peers to serve as a role model and youth leader in the Buckeye community.
Chang will fulfill her role as secretary on the Buckeye Youth Council at the completion of the 2018 - 2019 term.
The Buckeye Youth Council’s mission is to empower young leaders to develop and cultivate leadership skills with an emphasis on Character, Community, and Communication.
