Suspect in Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Identified
The suspect in yesterday’s fatal officer involved shooting has been identified as Antonio A. Ramos, 34, of Buckeye.
On December 25, 2018 shortly after 5:30 p.m., Buckeye police received a 911 call about fight between a woman and her boyfriend at a home near in the 24200 block of West Desert Bloom Street.
Officers learned that a shot had possibly been fired inside the home. Officers arrived and were able to get the suspect’s girlfriend, another woman and two children out of the home. No one was injured.
Officers were able to get the boyfriend on the phone but then contact was lost.
A shot was heard from inside the home and then a short time later the suspect came out of the house and opened fire on officers, forcing three of them to return fire.
The SWAT team was called to the scene and tactically moved toward the suspect. He was found deceased lying in the driveway.
The initial investigation revealed Ramos was armed with at least four weapons, three semi-automatic handguns and one high-powered semi-automatic rifle. It is estimated he fired more than two dozen rounds at officers, many of the bullets striking the home across the street, which thankfully, was unoccupied.
No officers were injured. The three Buckeye police officers involved will be on mandatory administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
A comprehensive investigation into the shooting is underway.
