Buckeye Police Officers Involved in Deadly Shooting
On December 25, 2018 shortly after 5:30 p.m. Buckeye police received a 911 call about fight between a woman and her boyfriend at a home near in the 24200 block of West Desert Bloom Street.
While officers were on their way to the home, they received information that a shot had possibly been fired inside the home. Officers arrived and were able to get the woman out of the home. Another adult woman and two kids remained inside with the boyfriend.
Officers were able to get the boyfriend on the phone and evacuate the other adult woman and two kids inside.
The man was threatening suicide while on the phone with officers. Contact with the suspect was lost and shortly after one shot was heard. A very short time later the suspect came out of the house and opened fire on officers. Several officers fired back.
The SWAT team was called out and safely moved in on the scene. The suspect was found lying in the driveway of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Several weapons were also found on the scene.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The three Buckeye police officers who returned fire have been put on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer involved shootings.
The name of the suspect has not been released pending notification of family.
A comprehensive investigation into the shooting is underway.
